“Numerologist Expert Says Reality Clashes with Public Image”

We’re in an Era of Celebrity. So much craze for stardom. In a recent article (September 10th 2009) “Hey, aren’t you … ?” in “The Age”, a prominent mainstream newspaper in Melbourne, Australia, there are some insider comments from various Australian celebrities:

- “You have no private life. You never know who’s genuine. And people develop an idea of you from the box that bears no relation to reality.”

- ”Fame can be created in a nanosecond. But because it is so instantly producible, it’s also really disposable… it’s a false sense of worth.”

- “Twittering, Facebook, people no longer feel like their lives are a valued thing unless there’s reportage. And I find that a tragic thing. There’s this spiritual chasm, that people don’t have a sense of their own importance unless they’re being talked about.”

- “But I’d rather have them talk about me than not. It’s like currency, isn’t it?”

- “I would prefer not to be spoken about than spoken about in inaccurate ways. Because your very personality becomes out of your hands.”

And this is why in my Birthday Numeroscope, I dare say that readers quite often might find my comment does not quite match up with their perception of the celebrities cited.

Check it out yourself there :))

  1. I have always thought it would be great to have a soundtrack in life. Certainly would make things more exciting, but upon reflecting on the reality it probably isn’t a good idea. It’s the same with fame, or pseudo-fame, which is what so many people achieve. Once you have it the luster wears thin.

  3. Hi John,

what an interesting post about celebrity, persona, personality, fame and numerology.

Check your email. I have a tip to give you that you will want to do that should take you 3 mins to do. Trust me on this one.

Always great to see your diligence and expertise. As a Westerner, learning not only about numerology, the subject, but also in a way how it fits into the scheme of things has been very beneficial to me for expanding my cultural horizons.

Agreed. We cannot tell what a celebrity is really like from the image of themselves that is portrayed via the media.

  6. Martin says:

Celebrities are normal people to which the public has overlayed the(often idealised) public image (which is then sometimes believed by the celebrity – but that’s another story).
No surprise then that Numerology uncovers the fact that they’re normal!

If we can have a ‘celebrity’ endorsement, still good for business.

Certainly celebrity distorts things. Besides if I were famous I would expect my publicist to make sure any character flaws were minimised. Fame and money are great motivators to be who you aren’t.

  10. I’ve meet people that are perceived to be larger then life. They always turn out to very nice normal people. Just hardworking, brutally honest, and very successful..

    This is really interesting John.

I think many people rely on the feedback of others to feel important and validated. Facebook, Twitter etc. can play a big part in encouraging this kind of thinking.
