I’ve just read Philip Graves great article “Words Don’t Mean What You Think”. He said that “Researchers in Canada have just published the results of some work they conducted looking at language used on cigarette packs. …. 84% believed the pack with a number 6 in the brand name would be less damaging to them than the one with a 10 in it.” How interesting that a lower number can have such an effect in the mind of smoker consumers. Back in 2005 when I was managing a computer branch of 17 staff, I asked them to guess how many pieces (between 1 -10) of sandwich or cakes were originally in the box I held. If they were correct, then they could choose & had a piece. Almost ALL guessed it was 7, which was incorrect.

No. Because I ask them one by one. On;y after they gave me their answer, then I tell them what’s the number the majority of people selected in front of them.

I think what you’re referring to Kevin Hogan’s demo is about asking his audience for the last 3 numbers of their driving licence. And then ask them what do they think what the pricing of a product should be. The higher their last 3 numbers, the likely they place a higher price of the product.
this has a WIDE application in influencing what people think about pricing.

In counting sequence, Chinese would say that we count UP from 10 to 9, 8, 7 … while the Americans, British, New Zealanders, Australians would say we count DOWN from 10 to 9, 8, 7 ….

The “counting sequence” I refer to is this:
For the Chinese, they would say, for example, that the song has now moved UP from being # 3 to #2 in the chart;
For the Westerners for the same situation, they would say moving DOWN from #3 to #2 postiion inthe chart.
